Let’s Compare: European Roulette vs American Roulette

What type of roulette is it better to choose?

american vs european roulette

Every gambler who begins thinking about playing in land-based casinos or online casinos can face a certain amount of options offered. Some of the gambling establishments provide you with the possibility to play for high bets, others offer you to start with low bets, in some of them you can make several stakes one after another or just put one stake and wait for the result. So, as you see the choice is great. One more thing that needs your consideration is the choice of the roulette you would like to play: European Roulette or American Roulette? With land-based casinos it is easy to make your choice, as every casino mainly specializes in one type of roulette. But what about online casinos? Here, the choice is up to you, as many online gambling institutions offer both types of this game. So, let’s analyze all the pros and cons of each type to help you in your decision.

What are the odds?

Every gambler before starting to play should know everything about the odds, so let’s talk about math a little bit. We are sure that you have heard about the house’s favor in the casinos games. What is it in reality? Not all the players, even the experience one understand everything about the odds and how to calculate them. But don’t despair, this math is not so complicated as it may seem from the very beginning.

Here is the simplest math: Typically, every roulette wheel has 36 numbers and you can put your bets on them. The payout ratio is the following: if you make bet on one number, your chances are 1 in 36, and these are the odds. Put your bet on 2 numbers and get 2 in 36, or 1 in 18; on 3 numbers – you’ll get 1 in 12; 4 numbers- 1 in 9 and so on.

But the problem is that in a roulette there are not 36 numbers. The European roulette has 37 numbers, as one zero is present there. And the American Roulette has 38 numbers, as there are two zero numbers. No one wins if the ball stops on zero or double zero, unless you put a bet on it. These zero sectors give the advantage to the casino. According to this, in European roulette your chances are 97,3%, and in American Roulette -94,7%.

What are the differences?

As it is clear from the previous paragraph, the main difference is in the odds. But there are some other not so important things.

The numbers on the roulette wheel are ordered differently in American and European Roulette. This can’t significantly affect your roulette betting odds, but makes some difficulties for the players who analyze the sectors that win more often.

One more difference is that in European roulette you tell the bets to the dealer and can use “en Prison” rule. You can also make “call bets” that cover a certain part of the field. In American Roulette you make additional street bets on 5 numbers in a row: 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. This bet gives the highest house edge-7,89%.

What are my chances and what are the payouts?

Every player has two question that bother him most: what are my chances to win and what do I get?

European Roulette can guarantee you higher chances of wins. According you some surveys, the highest difference is 1,28% and the lowest is 0,07%.

American Roulette vs European Roulette: it’s up to you

As you can see the differences are not do significant, this is just the question of your likes. So, choose any of the types you like and you will succeed!
