William Hill will transfer its clients in virtual reality
William Hill released “Get in the Race” at Digital Shoreditch 2015. Using the data collected with GPS, the device recreates the race with Unity 3D engine and CGI virtual reality.
The British bookmaker William Hill will transfer its clients in a virtual reality. The company has once again confirmed that it is the leader of the betting market, describing its new development ‘Get in the Race’ project, created on the basis of Google Cardboard smartphone hack.
According to the information given to The Drum by Crispin Nieboer, the Director of Development and Innovation in William Hills, a new unique project from William Hill allows the client to see the 3D image of horse racing through the eyes of a jockey participating in them.
In order to realize such a difficult task in life, together with the production studio Unit9, they start collecting GPS-data during the horse races to create the three-dimensional images of virtual reality. To travel back into it, the user needs to wear special glasses. Now the prototype is in the testing phase, which plans to attract customers. If the testing is successful, William Hill promises to create a virtual reality for other sports.
Google Cardboard VR, which costs in Great Britain only CA$8, was chosen as a more optimum device for a prototype of a new bookmaker product. Its competitor from the brand Facebook, Oculus Rift, was calculated as too expensive, as William Hill hopes that, finally, this project will enter the mass market.
Nevertheless, in future William Hill wants to introduce more difficult settings of the app, which will assume the use of conventional VR headset. There are even courageous plans to create special devices, which will give the user the feeling of the equestrian on the chosen horses.
The British bookmaker presented a prototype of the new project at Digital Shoreditch festival, started on Monday and up to May 24.
