A free online casino is opened in New Zealand
The authorities in New Zealand raised concerns as the casino provider SkyCity Entertainment Group launches a free gaming site.
Since the beginning of this week, video poker, slot machines and table games are available to visitors of Skycityonline.com for free, but the Problem Gambling Foundation CEO Graeme Ramsey does not believe “in altruism” of the operator. Mr. Ramsey in his interview to Auckland Now called this launch by the SkyCity “a promotion” and “an attempt to assert themselves with a new form of advertising.”
SkyCity is looking in the future
On the other hand, the company SkyCity just decided to go with the times and use the free-to-play sites online as a powerful tool in the arsenal of the campaign. The site began operating this week through the invitations to the participants of Premier Rewards and only the members of SkyCity casinos in Hamilton, Queenstown and Auckland can redeem the prizes won online.
A spokesman for SkyCity claims that the company has taken all measures in order to minimize the overruns cost of the site. For example, operators have introduced restrictions on the free recharge credit. Players can win some prizes, vouchers, and bonuses that can be used in land-based casinos only. Don’t forget that the online gambling is illegal in New Zealand, and SkyCity says that the new site does not become a “Trojan horse” in the Internet gambling. Leaders of the site argue that “SkyCity does not endorse the site for creation of its customer base and has no plans to go to the game for real money.” But such statements are not credible for Ramsey, who calls Skycityonline “a step in the wrong direction.”
There is nothing to worry about
But Ramsay and the rest can rest assured, as Skycityonline. com is open to players older than 20. And not only this, the studies proved that the idea that online gambling sites push young players to gambling is “out of touch with commercial and consumer reality.”
